I live within legal notification distance of the proposed tower on Rocky Point Rd in Metchosin. I would like to bring some plain common sense to this issue. We do not want this tower in this location. It is within clear sight from our house, about 40m from our property. It is right at the end of the drive way of our neghbours. A 29.9m tower is an industrial piece of equipment, I have seen one, they are ugly. Placing it so close to our houses creates an eyesore, devalues our property and introduces potential long term health risks of which no one is certain. So no thank you we don't want it here, and I can not imagine many people being OK with such a scenario happening to them. Would you? Would all your family? Would all your neighbours? I have heard that health issues and property devaluation are not valid issues in this 'consultation' process. This seems to be where common sense has been left behind. Plenty of research continues to be done into long term health issues of cell tower proximity, and long term will of course take a long time to determine. So why in the meantime should we take risks. Should we sign our 3 year old up as a research case? Our local elected land use authority wants to work with you to find alternate remote locations, so why not work with them? As a society we have created organisations called public corporations. Corporations behave so as to optimise their bottom line. So the employees become focused on the bottom line too. But employees are human beings. Human beings value such things as families, community, neighbourliness, good morals, and doing to others as we would like to be done to ourselves. So now we have human beings behaving one way when they are employees and another way when they are in society. So you, Darren can choose to hide behind the corporate facade and try all regulated means possible to trivialise and ignore what the families, community, neighbours, and elected representatives are all saying or you can choose to behave as a human being and treat others with genuine respect and consideration. Which role model would you like your 3 year old to take after and play-out when they reach kindergarten? Come on, really, pick up the phone and work with Metchosin Council on this.
